Microsoft finally receives a design patent for Windows 8 Start Screen
Engineering moves fast, only the United States government isn't exactly as quick. Microsoft had originally filed a patent for the Windows viii start screen in September 2022 (there was some initial confusion at the time on what it meant). The first release of Windows 8 was on October 25, 2022, so in essence, the patent was filled over a twelvemonth earlier the operating organisation appeared on the market.
The design patent itself has just been approved with a stamped engagement of January 28 2022 – over two years after information technology was submitted for approval.
The original patent is 4 pages in length and is entitled every bit a "Display Screen with graphical user interface" – patent number United states of america D698, 359 South. The inventor of the design is noted equally Ethan Nelson Ray, a User Interface developer who had worked for Microsoft at the time, merely now works as a Senior UX Designer at Google.
The claim of the pattern patent is for "a display screen with graphical user interface, equally shown and described". One of the images shows what appears to be a depression resolution and black and white Showtime Screen. The tiles themselves are not shown and inside are replaced with white rectangles.

While, the image itself (shown higher up) may make the fundamentally important concept backside the patent seem anticlimactic, information technology means one thing – Microsoft at present officially owns the design rights to Windows viii.
Pattern patents within the U.s.a. are one of the many types of patents available to those who are trying to protect their piece of work. Specifically, blueprint patents are a method of protecting industrial design intellectual properties. A famous instance of these patents at work could be seen in the now dated Apple vs. Samsung trials that argued over the Affect Wiz interface used by the Korean based visitor.
The government may be slow at getting design patents approved, but the designers at Microsoft can now sleep a bit more sound at night knowing that their dearest Windows eight UI is safe and sound.

Bigger than the backyard
Ahead of a 2022 release, Grounded has already reached 10 million players
Grounded, the unique survival game from Obsidian Entertainment and Xbox Game Studios, has already crossed 10 million players while in early access. The team is continuing to work on new updates and content ahead of Grounded's official release, now slated for sometime in 2022.
Kinect is dead. Long live Kinect.
Kinect was skillful. There I said information technology.
Retrospect is 20/xx, as they say, mayhap even sharper when using Kinect'southward high-powered cameras to view it. This is a homage to Kinect, a peripheral that was alee of its time, and doomed by poor positioning.
